Everyone is welcome at these services!

St. Augustine is a traditional Anglican community. We believe in the truth of the Holy Scriptures and the historic orthodox creeds of the early Church. We understand that the most basic truth is the love of God for us and for all creation and our goal is to walk in that love. Our worship is centered in the Eucharist or Lord’s Supper as given to us by Jesus and in the teaching of the Gospel, or good news, of Christ. We follow the classic worship of the church, developed in the New Testament and used throughout the centuries as a joyous celebration of God among us.

On April 5, Jueves Santo, Holy Thursday, Father Henry Hoffman visited the Palomas Outreach building just across the border in Palomas, Chihuahua -- New Mexico's only populated Mexico bordertown neighbor, which has suffered greatly during the ongoing crisis in Mexico.

Father Henry performed la Santa Misa, or holy mass, outdoors in the courtyard of the building complex. He also met with Palomas Outreach director Esperanza Lozoya, U.S. humanitarian worker who started her work in Palomas eight years ago, and who has expanded her efforts to include rural Chihuahua, where large numbers of Palomas residents have fled.

A huge project to serve the children of Palomas with new Easter shoes was underway that Thursday when Fr. Henry visited. Thanks to the generosity of many donors and the hard work of tireless Palomas Outreach volunteers, hundreds of children were fitted with new shoes, and provided with boxes of crayons and spiral notebooks.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO FIND AT ST. AUGUSTINE?
We are a small caring community of Christians who are happy to welcome others. We are orthodox Christians who know that love is the first and great commandment without which all doctrine is meaningless. We worship in a devout, joyful way in the eloquent language of the traditional church. The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is the center of our worshipping celebration, conveying God's love to us, who are unworthy but thankful for His mercy. We are all seeking and welcome others who are seeking. We welcome visitors and are happy to share our worship and faith, but we do not pressure others. We are always ready to simply talk or share information or a prayer with anyone.

WHO ARE ANGLICANS?
Anglicans are Christians who accept the truth of the Bible and the historic creeds of the early Church, and whose traditions of worship have their roots in both the ancient Church and the English Church. Although a relatively small church in the United States, Anglicans worldwide number many millions.

WHAT IS OUR WORSHIP LIKE?
The worship of the Anglican Church follows the general liturgy of traditional Christianity. At the same time, it is privileged to use the glorious language of the English book of Common Prayer. Visitors often comment on the devout nature of our worship, combined with lively singing. But first and foremost our worship is a joyful celebration of the love of God.

WHO RUNS THINGS?
Locally, a vestry, or church council, is elected by the congregation. The chief officer is called the senior warden. Our property is owned by the congregation. We follow the New Testament order of ministry: bishops, priests and deacons. The bishop, who is also elected, oversees a number of parishes. We are the only Anglican parish in the Luna-Hidalgo County area. Many travel a long distance to be part of our church community.
